A weekend in Örebro 14th-17th August 2026

Friday was the day to leave Upsalla. I had planned to speed a weekend in Örebro visiting an old friend. Sadly she had an accident falling and hitting her head. So she is finally home recovering.

I booked 3 nights at an inexpensive hotel in central Örebro. I had a very welcome from Camilla who brought me to Västeras train station. I got the train to Örebro, and walked to the City C<entre Hotel.

I really was surprised at how tired I was when I arrived. Lucky the hotel restaurant was open Friday night so I didn’t have to go out.

Saturday morning I walked to a nature reserve to visit the Örebro Parkrun, but as it was 3km there I didn’t run or walk it. And they didn’t need any volunteers. So I set off yo explore the reserve.

Sunday I watched the Birmingham European marathon on SVT 1 in Swedish. After I went out to see the castle, Örebro Slott. It was a lovely visit. It was a combination of Swedish history and an exhibition of magical photography by aa British artist, Kristy Mitchel.

The castle with a lot of old portraits of kings and queens.

But the amazing part was the exhibition in about 3 large rooms of Kirsty Mitchell’s exhibition called ”Wonderland”.

There were two video stations showing films of her making the costumes, hair styles, and sets for the photos. Absolutely incredible.

I had my lunch in Lill-Annas Slott Cafe in the bottom of one of the tourets.

And then I went out on reconnaissance to find where I board my bus tomorrow to go to Arlanda Airport. A lovely relaxing weekend to unwind before I go home.
