Monday morning and the fun begins!

We have language course in the morning starting at 8.30am! And we have cultural studies in the afternoon from 1:45 till 4.30. So for language I am in the very beginners course of A1 and for cultural studies I chose Swedish film despite Mattias’ explanation of how masochistic, depressing and bleak the films will be.

The students are quite a mix of ages, although I may be the oldest, and abilities. I am always amazed at how many languages all the other students in my group can speak – especially as most have a first language from Cantonese to Czech and several Germans plus Americans in the class. All of the students are fluent in English as we are taught in it, and then when they go for coffee (fika) you hear at least 4 small groups gather to speak in their first language. Some of the older students are here for six weeks and a few are on their 8th visit to the summer school.

At the end of classes on Monday we had a guided tour of Uppsala with a local guide who is known for dressing up as Linneas, a old scientist, but luckily he came in 21st century casual attire. But it was a great tour with good stories.

It certainly made it a full day as the tour ended about 7.00. I went home to do my homework and go to bed while my classmates went out for drinks and dinner.
