Saturday 22nd March

The wind has abated….well slowed down from 35kph to 6kph. We waited for the air to warm up and then caught the local bus into Rhodes City at 11.00am

It is a 15 minute bus ride to the centre of the city and the medieval walled city. Occupied by The Order of St John of Jerusalem there are gates and buildings from each of the nationalities of the Knights as you walk around the city. Today it is home to over 10,000 Greeks who mainly cater to the numerous tourists

We entered through the moat entrance walking around the outer walls of the city and Palace of the Grand Master. We glimpsed inside the entrance of the Palace but opted to wander the city lanes rather than the interior of the Palace.

The lanes and streets are lined with restaurants, souvenirs, clothing stores, etc. Many haven’t opened yet, but shopkeepers were starting to clean and restock for the coming summer season.

We found a cafe for lunch and each ordered a wrap and a drink. Judith asked for garlic but there was none on the menu. She lamented the lack of garlic on the holiday and the waitress did find several cloves of garlic to mix with olives for her.

We wandered back through the city past the harbour to catch the bus home.

Still looking lovely and sunny Tina. Wonder where you are heading next? Surely that’s not a real parrot in your photo- it looks enormous!

Yes he is a real parrot and yes he is enormous. He was just hanging out at the restaurant in the square. And the sun has been lovely.
