Saturday 8 July in Whitehall PA

I spent most of my morning sorting out mobile communication. I thought I had sorted Go Roaming with 3 at home before leaving, but it turns out their package allows me to phone and text to the UK but not the USA. So after breakfast our first stop was to walk up to Best Buy electrical good store to buy a US SIM card for my mobile/cell phone. Samira the sales lady was excellent. She set the service up and activated my new sim and helped me buy one month’s service. So I can now phone friends and family.

So I phoned my brother. And he was giving tours at the Whitehall Historical Preservation Society all day. We went to the Lehigh Valley Shopping Mall.

We walked to the mall. Walking in this area is an anathema…they don’t even have pavements/sidewalks along MacArthur Road (route 145). And the first intersection is clearly posted no pedestrians. So we walked a bit farther up and found a way across at a one-way system crossing walking alongside the cars crossing the road. Once safely across on Grape Street they had pedestrian signals for crossing Grape Street…very civilised. (This journey was taken against the advise of my B-I-L’s sister, Marietta, who did offer us lifts. ).

We had a relaxing morning browsing the shops and then walked down to my brother’s house to wait for his return from giving tours. We then went out to dinner to dinner with Marietta before she dropped us back at the hotel.

That sounds a bit dangerous, walking along Grape Street ! And what a helpful lady in the phone shop. You will be exhausted if you carry on with all this walking every day..
