Birthday trip to Killarney – 15 July 2019

I came to Killarney a few years ago with Judith and my sisters. Our one regret was not getting to see the Ring of Kerry. So I decided to make a quick journey back to take a bus tour round the Ring – it is a 180 mile circular journey. That is tomorrow’s treat.

Today is my 70th birthday and I am 10 years older than I ever expected to be. Thanks to Judith’s love and support I am also fitter than in the previous 30 years and the NHS has been crucial in my medical care. So I feel really blessed.

We set off from our home in Birmingham at 6.45am walking to Longbridge station to catch w trains to the airport and then we had a short flight to Shannon airport… and we did it in a small prop plane.

Our airplane across the Irish Sea. 😨

But it was an uneventful and smooth journey. We got an express bus from the airport to Limerick and then waited 30 minutes for the lesser express bus…it had several stops on the way to Killarney. But we got to our hotel at checking -in time – 3.00pm.

Refreshed after a shower we went out to see the nearby river and watch the rush hour traffic. But we also remembered all the signposts from our previous visit, like the Amber petrol station where we turned left to get to our B&B and the race course signs.

A short walk in a small park
Enjoying the local brew.

Tomorrow is

Is an 8 hour tour of the Ring of Kerry which is much anticipated.
