Block Printing Workshops

We had workshops in different types of block printing in different regions over six days and each day was at a different venue and a different part of the Jaipur region.

Thursday 4th April

Our first workshop was in Gem Vihar Colony in south Jaipur near the airport. We did metallic printing with Gold and Silver paints in the afternoon after visiting Sanager and the block carvers and a family textile printing factory.

Before getting to the factory we walked the “streets” of the village to visit the block carvers. The carver work in open front workshops at street level and their families live on the floors above.

We also visited a family factory to see them printing fabric. They printed at incredible speed and could print the second colour with perfect registration. The family lived on the ground and first floors and the print and dye rooms were on the second floor.
