Goodbye Killarney

Well we discovered that Killarney is a night owl sort of place as the buses do not start departing until 10.00am. Our flight home leaves Shannon on Thursday morning at 10.40am, so I capitulated to Irish time and custom and booked us a room at the Park Inn at Shannon Airport for Wednesday night. We caught the 10.00am bus to Limerick planning to spend the afternoon exploring it. The bus journey is two hours an we checked out train times but that took two hours and forty minutes an two changes 😯

We arrived in Limerick just after 12.00 noon and the weather was living up to being part of the Wild Atlantic Way. It was windy with showers and very occasional glimpses of the sun. We visited the city art gallery which had 3 very different artists exhibiting. Robert Ryan a local artist from Lough Gur was the most intriguing painting a mystical world exploring isolation and loneliness. Mary Swazey spanned the twentieth century with a full range of styles from formal portraits to impressionism, cubist, and finally social realism.

We walked up O’Connell Avenue to the Hunter Gallery which had two painted horses outside which are part of a community art project. Then we went back down the river side walk.

We caught a late afternoon bus to Shannon as we were tired from the walking in the wind and showers. We are grateful for an early evening and not having to set off early tomorrow morning as it is a stroll across the car park to check-in tomorrow morning.
